Usually fixed to the top of the rod, these are perfect reel children or the beginner because of their ease of operation. A cross between a bait casting reel and spinning reel, the spin casting reel works by pressing and releasing a button that allows the line to flow freely. The line comes out from a hole in the middle of a cone-shaped housing that covers the spool. Turning the handle retracts the line onto the spool. Some spin casting reels fit on the bottom of the rod and have a long lever that can be pulled to release the line.
